“I have choreographed for many different occasions, choreographing on young students to advance students as well as choreographing for my own projects; these are two very different processes. The first has as its goal to cater for the ability of the students, the other to choose dancers for choreographic needs and then to execute an artistic vision. I have had frequent collaborations with composers and musicians. I have also choreographed for an opera company, an experience which I will treasure.”
Tomiko Magario
As well as her dancing, Tomiko Magario’s choreographic ability is also supported with her wide range of dance vocabulary. Some of her pieces have been described as “something classic paired with futuristic vibe.” Her work has been presented at Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute, Camerata New York, Steps on Broadway and a production of Archer-Watters LLC “Before the Swan Takes Flight”. She also has been producing numbers of new works under School at Steps, Logrea Dance Academy and Yolanda’s Dance Academy. Currently Magario is working on “Project Tapestry” with avant-garde jazz trumpeter Ted Daniel.
